Hamsters

Unhappy hamster

Bar gnawing You may see your hamster repeatedly gnawing at the bars of his cage, often for long periods at a time. This behavior is a sign of an animal that is stressed, and a hamster may be so stressed that it does not stop even if he has made his nose and mouth sore, or damaged his teeth. The common cause of this behavior is boredom, meaning the hamster does not have enough space and/or things to do. Other causes include the cage being in a part of the house that is too brightly lit or too noisy. You should try giving your pet more space and things to do and think carefully whether where you have put its cage in the most suitable place.
