Policy Title: FACULTY EVALUATION

Each instructor will be evaluated annually by the appropriate Division Chairperson, Director, Dean, or the Vice President for Instruction. Faculty members will also be evaluated by the students yearly. The results of these standardized evaluations will be discussed in conferences between the faculty members and the appropriate Division Chairpersons, Director, Dean, or Vice President for Instruction. The College will provide faculty and their supervisors yearly written reports on all their respective teaching and advisement ratings. These reports will be filed for comparative purposes. Faculty will be expected to excel in their teaching efforts, and those who do not will be directed to that end by additional counseling with their Division Chairpersons. If this procedure is not productive, the Division Chairs will notify the Vice President for Instruction who will meet in special instructive sessions with the faculty members who are not performing satisfactorily. Faculty development activities, both on and off-campus, will be utilized as needed to assist faculty members in improving instruction. Superior teaching within the entire college will be recognized by the awarding of the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award and the selected instructor will receive special recognition during Fall Convocation. (refer to Policy 306, EAST CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION “EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING & LEARNING” AWARD. Leading instructors will be recognized each year by naming him/her to be a participant in the annual Lamplighters’ Conference, a three-day meeting of outstanding community/junior college instructors in Mississippi. Further recognition will be given to an outstanding instructor selected by the foremost students at East Central for recognition by the state legislature through the HEADWAE program. Specific procedures to be followed in the evaluation process for faculty are included in Policy 731, PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS AND RE-EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURES.
