SECURITY OFFICERS

General Statement of the Function: The security officers are responsible for assisting Campus Police in maintaining law and order on the campus, providing security for college and personal property, traffic control, investigation of incidents, preparation and submission of required logs and forms, efficient after hours operation of the physical plant, including air conditioning and heating equipment, and opening and locking doors as required for evening classes. The security officers report directly to the Chief of the Campus Police Department.

Duties and Responsibilities :

1. Patrol the campus on foot and in the security vehicle; 2. Be alert to detect the presence of unauthorized persons and vehicles; 3. Investigate incidents, accidents, thefts, acts of vandalism, disturbances, unauthorized assemblies and abandoned property; 4. Monitor vehicle traffic and issue traffic citations for moving and non-moving violations; 5. Give directions and instructions to authorized visitors; 6. Monitor mechanical operations of boilers, air conditioning units, and relate equipment and take necessary action in case of emergencies and malfunctions; 7. Insure conservation of utilities to the extent possible; 8. Turn on security lights at dark and off at daybreak; 9. Campus security officers do not have the power to make arrests. When conditions warrant such action, local law enforcement agencies are to be contacted; and 10. Other duties as assigned.
