MD-9 Impact of Density Difference Between Vapor Density and Liquid Density on Capacity Correlation Expected Benefit toMembers: Expand the range of jet flood correlations to system with higher differences between vapor and liquid densities. Higher accuracy for initial design and expansion capability. Present Situation and Proposed Research: Some of our processes (especially in silicones) have a larger than normal density difference between the liquid and vapor phases leading to the ability to get higher capacity than typical correlations would predict in the active area and downcomers due to easier phase separation. The differences are not just from higher pressure, but the nature of the molecules being distilled. We are interested in expanding jet flood and downcomer flood correlation data further into this Developmental Research Idea

range (higher − ) if it has not been done. Previous work would-be high-pressure distillation. Proposed Internals and Test System: Not available at this time Research Facility: May require a special test system at a University Estimated Unit Time: Not available at this time Estimated Additional Costs (Beyond Unit Time): Not available at this time

Background and Discussion: See Proposed Research above
