OR-15 Entrainment Removal in High Vapor Density or Low Surface Tension Expected Benefit to Members: To collect performance data of the vapor-liquid separator with the high vapor density and/or low surface tension systems, such as removal efficiency and capacity etc. Present Situation and Proposed Research: The effect of the vapor density and/surface tension on the vapor-liquid separator performance is not well-understood, especially for high vapor density and low surface tension systems. Few experimental data are available with the commercial size of vapor-liquid separator. It is proposed to select a vapor-liquid separator or separators to be tested at FRI experimental unit. Proposed Internals and Test System: Vapor-liquid separator(s). Test System: iC4/nC4 systems at 165 psia (11.4 bara). Estimated Unit Time: Three weeks for each separator. Total six week unit time. This project may be conducted as a parallel project when a regular mass transfer study is performed in LP column. Background and Discussion: The proposed test may potentially be combined with the kettle reboiler entrainment studies (OR 11). It will be useful to measure droplet sizes using Phase Doppler Interferometer (PDI) when the entrainment removal data is collected. Traditional Research Idea
