Chebeague Island Council Calendar December 2025 Issue #12

The Calendar is published monthly by the Chebeague Island Council. It is available on-line at Chebeague Island News (www.chebeague.org) or www. chebeagueislandcalendar.com and delivered to every active mail box on the island. The Calendar welcomes submissions from its readers, including letters and thank you notes, but it cannot publish anything that is political in nature, libelous, or obscene. All submissions should include the author’s name and contact information. Without exception, the deadline for submissions is noon on the 20 th day of the month preceding publication. Submissions and ad copy may be mailed (247 South Road), left at the Council office (on 247 South Road) or emailed (chebeagueislandcouncil@gmail.com) and sent as attachments (.doc; no pdfs) or included in the body of the text. Images and photographs should be sent in a .jpg, .jpeg, or .rtf format. Please do not use the old email address at as this is an inactive account. As a courtesy and space permitting, island nonprofits are given up to a free half page each month to publish their news. Any such submissions exceeding a half page will be charged at the usual rate. All submissions become the property of the Chebeague Island Council, which reserves the right to edit them for length and clarity. Submissions that are not time sensitive may be held until there is enough space to publish them. Additional information about submissions is available at www.chebeagueislandcalendar.com. Advertising rates are as follows: full page, $80, ½ page, $40; ¼ page, $20; 4-line classified, $10; 6 to 8 line classified, $15. Each submission should include the intended publication date, size wanted, and the number of months the ad should run. All ads must be paid for at the time of submission.

A Bus Upgrade Is Coming! Our hardy bus riders have spoken: more leg room and more space for freight. We hear you! We had planned to deliver all that with a brand-new bus by next summer, but the manufacturer has pushed delivery to at least 2027. Since reliability and safety can’t wait, we’re bringing a “new to us” bus into the fleet now. It’s not the exact model we dreamed of, but it’s a real upgrade over our current Bus 2— and it will keep our service dependable and running safely. (And yes… you’ll get a little more leg room!) The Cousins Lot is Fabulous!

The reviews are in! CTC has gotten a lot of compliments on the parking lot after its much needed facelift. Thank you to SKB and Whitney Tree Care for helping us make it happen. A list of improvements include: Parking aids to keep rows of cars straighter

Thank you note from the Bogles We wanted to thank the EMT’s on Chebeague as well as the crew of the CTC for everything you did to help Warren make his way quickly to Maine Med in an emergency situation. We are pleased to announce that Buxbaum Builders will build the 704-sq foot addition which will provide private work and study spaces to be used by the community. Construction is expected to last from early December through March. During this time use of the parking lot will be limited. We plan to open the space in the summer of 2026 as a pilot program as we develop policies and procedures for use of the new space. We ask for your patience during construction and as we work to open the space to the public. During the pilot phase, use of the work space will coincide with normal library hours. This project is made possible by grants from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development via the Maine State Library, the Recompense Foundation, the Virginia Ballard Fund, and the generosity of Chebeague Island Library supporters now and into the future. Notes from the Council

We’ll need to dig deep to get through these next dark weeks. Food and friends are a good remedy for the winter blues. Wednesday coffee and soup at the Hall are well underway. Susie offers coffee and baked goods at the Hall every Wednesday morning at 9 with lively conversation. We’ve also had some tremendous soups served over the last few weeks thanks to our amazing chefs. You can make a morning out of it; stop by for coffee first, check in with Corie at the library to read the paper and check out a book, then come back to the Hall at noon for soup. It doesn’t get much better than that. Speaking of food, The Food Pantry at the Parish

House is accepting donations. It is a well-stocked pantry filled with a variety of food available to anyone on the island, whether you’ve run out of an item and can’t make it to the store or need groceries to hold you over. Don’t miss the Commons Holiday Party on Friday, December 5 at 4:30pm. The Hall and Library team up to host the Holiday Party with Santa on Saturday, December 6 at 2pm at the Hall. After filling up on cookies, head over to hear the Whalers at 7 pm at the Church. Once we have recuperated from the gatherings and treats, we can observe the solstice and holidays, and note the gradual increase in daylight hours each day.
