WIRTGEN provides alternative mining solutions

By Pierre Sanson

T he Wirtgen surface mining technol- ogy offers the ideal method for the challenging geological conditions in a mine. Compared to conventional methods, the selective surface mining technology simplifies the mining process, thus reduc- ing operating costs and supplying product of higher quality. Wirtgen surface mining has proven its worth as a tried-and-tested technology in numerous mining projects. This enables many areas which typically offer room for improvement when introducing an entirely new technology to be identified and opti- mised quickly. To maximize exploitation of the mineral deposits, the surface miner cuts, crushes and loads the material in a single machine pass, producing an even and easily traffi- cable surface in the process. The surface miner replaces traditional equipment such as excavators, bulldozers and wheel load- ers, resulting in major savings, mainly in labor and fuel, leading to significant reduc- tion in operating costs. Wirtgen has intro- duced a range of surface mining machines that provide economic sustainability while affording environmental protection.

The multi-purpose Wirtgen 2200 SM has made a name for itself around the globe as a successful mining process. Its compact dimensions and excellent manoeuvrability makes it the ideal candidate for smaller projects and operations in restricted space conditions such as tunnel construction or operations in urban areas. Manoeuvrabil- ity is one of the strong features of the

2200SM, assisted by a finger-light all track steering system. The large steering angles permit an extremely small turning radius. The operator can choose from three differ- ent steering modes, each of which is the fastest way to achieve the goal in the spe- cific field of operation.
