TOTAL SOLUTIONS for mining and construction

Construction and mining industries have come to rely on Scania trucks as robust, durable and ingenious solutions that offer uptime, productivity and fuel efficiency. Driver training, insurance, financing, servicing; Scania South Africa offers the total package.

rigid dump trucks and up to 120 tonnes in the case of longer distance haulers.

In the business of providing fully specified solutions and not just selling vehicles, Scania is able to offer qualified mining advisory ser- vices in logistics and site optimisation which can include optimising loading time and overall equipment utilisation, and monitoring ongoing operations. Smith explains, “We will typically create a haulage solution that is tai- lored to each customer’s situation and give advice on how to maximise equipment effi- ciency and productivity and minimise down- time. These are crucial factors in any mining application”. As part of its extensive construction range, Scania also offers the local construction mar- ket two mixer models: the P310 6x4 (which carries a 6 m 3 drum) and the P410 8x4 (which carries an 8 m 3 drum). The 6 m 3 drum is fitted to a three axle vehicle and the 8 m 3 drum to a four axle vehicle.

W hether in mining or construction, Scania works closely with its cus- tomers to ensure that the right combination of chassis, wheel configura- tion, powertrain and cab is matched to the job requirement. Not only is this cost effec- tive but a vehicle with the right specifica- tion is more efficient and has less impact on the environment. Scania builds its vehicles according to a 70-year tradition of modular design – which makes for tremendous flexibility and contrib- utes to shorter lead times for delivery. The chassis are imported from its factories over- seas but the bodies are assembled in South Africa to the customer’s specification. This means that it in addition to its well-known

and wide range of offerings for the construc- tion industry it can supply specialist vehicles such as lubrication trucks, water tankers, staff transporters, stemming units, and ser- vice vehicles to the mining industry. Mining profitability depends on carefully controlled capital and operating costs. As Becky Smith, GM Mining notes, “Transporta- tion costs make up to 30 % of this total, and the message Scania wants to get across to South Africa’s mining sector is that we have a solution for every stage of mining – from exploration to reclamation and everything in between”. Scania’s range includes on- and off-road vehicles, all built to a demanding mining specification, which can provide ca- pacities up to 46 tonnes in the case of in-pit
