the St. Louis market has seen several deals, being led by Centene, SSM and Mallinckrodt. In August 2015, SSM closed a deal to acquire St. Louis University Hospital from Tenet Healthcare Corp. St. Louis healthcare giant Centene has been, perhaps, the most active. In March 2016, it closed on its $6 billion acquisition of California-based Health Net Inc. The deal secured Centene’s position as the nation’s largest Medicaid managed care organization. The deal will add to Centene’s existing $37 billion in annual revenue. Along with the acquisition, Centene is in the process of a massive corporate expansion at its national headquarters in downtown

Clayton, Missouri. The expansion includes a 20-story, 660,000-square-foot building on Hanley Road, across from its current headquarters which opened six years ago. The expansion is estimated to bring approximately 2,000 additional jobs to the Clayton area. The industry is constantly evolving and changes are prevalent. With the upcoming presidential election looming, significant additional changes are possible as Democrats and Republicans battle over the future structure of the U.S. health system.
