DAS cable

The new VDV tools complement Southwire’s full line of low-voltage cable products and extend Southwire’s tools and equipment line.

Superior Essex has launched an indoor plenum fiber copper hybrid cable for distributed antenna systems (DAS). The DAS hybrid cable consists of two discrete cables, one copper and one fiber, paired beneath an over-jacket. The dual design allows the hybrid cable to transmit communications while also providing power to DAS remote units. Several features are specifically designed to facilitate installation and deployment. The two-in-one design allows power and fiber cables to be pulled simultaneously, saving time and labor by eliminating the need for two separate pulls. Unlike round hybrid cables, with unjacketed copper and fiber, the discrete copper and fiber cables within the Superior Essex hybrid cable can be easily separated and routed individually. Furthermore, the copper conductors utilize an intuitive black and red color scheme that makes it easier to determine positive and negative connections. The cable is UL 13 CL2P plenum rated, eligible for installation throughout a building, including air carrying plenum space. Where the cable forms part of a NEC class 2 power limited system some local building codes allow it to be installed without being enclosed in a raceway or armored.

“Installers are passionate about the tools in their tool bag,” said John Payne, Southwire’s product director for VDV, test and measurement. “Our objective is to build professional tools that exceed our customers' expectations for quality, performance and features.” A new product is the T100PK professional toneandprobe kit. Market research suggests that installers find the test leads on most tone generators to be frustrating because they hang loose, andareeasily tangledwith other tools so Southwire has found a way to store the test leads in the tester body, completely eliminating the problem. product development approach – the same approach Southwire has successfully used to maintain leadership in the wire and cable market for years,” Mr Payne added. “Our goal is to improve installer job site productivity by creating a set of quality tools “It’s an installer-focused
