Which friction compound should I choose for my bike? Ferodo manufactures 3 different friction compounds for Harley-Davidson and custom V-Twin motorcycles. Below, is a comprehensive outline of the benefits of each compound. We are also providing this quick, general guide on the facing page, for picking the right pad: ST – for OEM replacement where performance and pad life are the priority. P – for OEM replacement where cooler running temperatures and gentler rotor wear than stock are desired PRP – for polished rotors and show bikes where aesthetics take priority over performance.

FERODO ‘Polished Rotor Pads’ ‘PRP’ Compound Why? There is great demand amongst riders for a friction material that works with polished or Show rotors, so this product was de- signed for that very application. The PRP brake pad is designed to minimize material deposits “smudging” and the “scoring” of rotors due to aggressive abrasives normally used. The unique PRP pad achieves all of this whilst still providing stopping power often exceeding OE specifications. How? For a brake pad to work efficiently it has to be “bedded” which is a transfer of friction material onto the rotor face, this is in most cases where the damage occurs on polished or show style rotors. The PRP material was designed for minimal “bedding“ in and therefor reduces the unsightly deposits on the rotor face. Modern day friction materials are also designed for long life and in most cases very high performance. The materials used to achieve this specification create an appearance on the rotor which bike builders find unacceptable.
