• Virtually all IV products are packaged in either low-density polyethylene (LDPE) or borosilicate bottles/containers • LDPE has consistently come up cleaner than high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and even Teflon® (PTFE). • Borosilicate bottles are used for certain chemical stability considerations. • Leaching with 1-5% HNO 3 is recommended for cleaning bottles.

Container Materials

LDPE • Preferred for its cleanliness • Compatible with all matrices used in our standards

Borosilicate • Used for products containing ≤ 200 ppm Hg and/or < 10 ppm Pd in HNO 3 matrices. • Avoid using HF matrices due to the acid’s attack on glass • Due to impurities, not recommended for solutions containing lower levels of Na, Al, B, Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Ni, Sr, Zn and/or Zr
