Upcoming Webinars on Alternate Assessment Participation The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires each district or community school to submit a justification when it expects to test more than 1 percent of its students using the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD). If your district expects to test more than 1 percent of its students using the alternate assessment, you must submit the online justification between Nov. 5 and Dec. 10, 2018.

Two webinars are scheduled to discuss alternate assessment updates and the revised 1 percent participation justification form:

 Monday, Oct. 29, 3:30-4:30 p.m.; and  Tuesday, Oct. 30 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Samples of this year’s justification form, an optional school-level form, and access information for the webinar are available here . Each session will allow for a limited number of participants. Please plan to participate in groups to allow for the most participants possible. Veterans’ Day Observance Reminder  Ohio Revised Code Section 3313.602(D) provides: (D) The board of education of each city, local, joint vocational, chartered community, and exempted village school district, and the Cleveland scholarship and tutoring program, shall require each district school to devote time on or about Veterans' day to an observance that conveys the meaning and significance of that day. The amount of time each school devotes to this observance shall be at least one hour or, in schools that schedule class periods of less than one hour, at least one standard class period. The board shall determine the specific activities to constitute the observance in each school in the district after consultation with the school's administrators.
