Support Staff Awareness Week
Students learnt in assemblies during Support Staff Awareness week about the various behind-the-scenes roles and work that support staff undertake to ensure that the School can operate safely and smoothly.
In addition many support staff were nominated for particular recognition and received certificates thanking them for their contribution to the School community. All of this helped raise the profile of support staff and increased awareness of their work fulfilling the aim of the week.
Whilst students might be familiar with the Student Reception, Library and the Welfare Room (including the sick bay!) they also discovered much about the tasks the Premises team undertake, such as how long it takes to set up the Hall and how exam desks have to be precisely a set distance apart to meet regulations. Students learnt about the work of the Exams Officer, Data Manager, Finance and IT teams, as well as the range of technicians who help prepare lessons, the work of Learning Support Assistants, and Cover Supervisors who take lessons when teachers are absent. In addition, there are staff working on admissions, attendance, careers, the School Sports Partnership and lettings, as well as administration and the Head’s PA. There were some interesting statistics too. Did you know that the school employs some 153 staff? Many of the staff are part time or term time only, but there are 84 teachers, 49 support staff and 20 casual staff (mostly Exam Invigilators and Lettings staff). The annual revenue budget for running a school of this size is roughly £6.5 Million. There are 500 computers to be maintained, 60 projectors and whiteboards, 4 physical servers and 27 virtual servers required to run the IT network.
