Betsy M. Cowles Award Winner to be Presented at the BASA Women’s Conference on March 20, 2017

The Betsy M. Cowles Award is given annually to a woman who exemplifies outstanding administrative leadership. Betsy Cowles was one of the earliest and most notable female superintendents in the State of Ohio. She is known for her contributions to education, abolitionism and women’s rights. Ms. Cowles was a risk taker and stood for what she believed. She spoke out against the Black Laws which kept African Americans from voting in Ohio. She actually quit her teaching job when the school where she was working refused to admit black students. Please find attached the application form to nominate a person for this award. Deadline for submitting the application is February 25, 2017 .
