In one featured application, the company supplied to the manufacturer of a line of hose couplings for bulk material handling using stamped half-forms welded together. Ten different size configurations were being manufactured in aluminium, stainless and carbon steel. Due to wear, the customer needed to rebuild all ten dies at a substantial cost. Formitt Metal Labs was able to replace all forming and welding operations for the ten part configurations with one set of tube spinforming tooling. As a result, the quality and appearance of the parts was improved while the cost of future new dies, die repairs, and welding processes was eliminated. Formitt now provides spinformed production parts to the customer. A second featured application highlights a manufacturer of aftermarket motorcycle muffler shells. The old process stamped and welded end-cones to the muffler tube, ground down the weld and then polished the part. Formitt’s technicians developed a new manufacturing process that eliminated the dies, stamped parts and welded end- cones. The spinforming process improved the part quality by eliminating the welded joint and grinding operation, which enhanced part quality and provided a smooth finish ready for polishing. Formitt hollow tube fabricated assemblies may include the insertion of filtration elements, heat exchange components, and catalytic elements. The company’s hollow tube spinforming prototyping and production technologies are currently used in the automotive, HVAC, filtration, and marine industries, in addition to others. The company’s tube cutting machines incorporate the ‘dual-blade’ shear and the ‘Kleencut’ supported shear cutting methods. At this year’s Fabtech in Las Vegas, Haven will launch a new product. The Haventrak Flying Shear is the result of a partnership between Haven and the Universal Controls Group based in Perrysburg (OH), USA. Haven has combined its dual-blade shear cut-off head with the U-Trak precision roller screw accelerator from Universal Controls Group.

With over 30 years of experience, HC Starck has an in-depth understanding of extrusion, metallurgy and processing. The company is a leader in toll extrusion across a broad range of materials including copper, stainless steel, nickel based super-alloys, titanium, aluminium, superconducting materials, refractory metals, composites and numerous alloys. The company’s 5,000 metric ton extrusion press and gas fired furnaces, with temperatures ranging from 260°C to 1,315°C, enable the pre-charging of billets via a furnace with induction coils for heating purposes. HC Starck also has the capability to utilize billets ranging from 6″ up to 17″ and to extrude a wide variety of shapes of up to 17m in length. Extruded shapes include forward extruded rods, tube and pipe with flanges as well as backward extruded heavy wall pipe. Oil country tubular products and coiled rod are just some of the standard products that HC Starck is able to extrude. Complimenting its extrusion services, the company also offers state-of-the-art rotary forging capabilities. HC Starck’s 220t rotary forge can produce tapers, step and other shapes to meet a host of application needs. Website : www.hcstarck.com
