Medicaid: A state and federal program that provides health coverage for low-income Virginians who meet other eligibility criteria. There is no enrollment fee or monthly premium for Medicaid. Covers comprehensive services for children. Covers emergency dental ser- vices only for adults. Medicare: A federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare does not cover most dental care. FAMIS: FAMIS is Virginia's health insurance program for low-income children and pregnant women. It covers services including dental care, doctor and hospital visits, well baby checkups, vaccinations, prescrip- tion medications, and more. No enrollment costs or monthly premiums. Covers comprehensive services for children and pregnant women. Free clinics: Safety-net health care organizations that use both staff and volunteers to provide medical, dental, pharmacy, vision and/or behavioral health services to uninsured/underinsured and low-income individuals for free or at a nominal cost. TAP Dental Health Initiative: The Dental Health Initiative (DHI) was created to help those who need dentistry work done and cannot afford to pay the costs up front and out of pocket. They provide loans and work with clients to set up a payment plan they can afford. Must be 18 or older and provide proof of income.
