WHEN DO I GO TO THE ER?

In order to take good care of your teeth, it’s important to know which problems might require emergency dental care. If you think you have an emergency, call your dentist’s office first; they might be able to schedule an appointment for you quickly so that you can avoid an unnecessary and expensive trip to the emergency room.

WHEN T0 GO TO THE ER: • Bleeding that will not stop • A permanent tooth that has been knocked out or severely cracked • Injured jaw • Severe toothache • Signs of infection or abscess, such as a fever or severe pain

WHEN NOT TO GO TO THE ER: • Lost filling, crown, or bridge • Chipped or cracked tooth (unless the tooth is causing you severe pain) • Broken or damaged retainer or night guard • Dull toothache If you have insurance and want to know more about what your plan covers, call the number on the back of your card.
