ASSA ABLOY UK Specification announces new RIBA approved CPD Seminar focusing on BIM Door Object development The RIBA-accredited CPD seminar, entitled: ‘Enhancing the Efficiency of BIM Door Object Development’, is now available to book and counts towards the Design, Construction and Technology core curriculum.

The objectives of the seminar are to help architects understand the requirements and web-based resources available on the market for creating pre-built standards-based BIM Door Objects, in order to significantly improve the specification and scheduling process. Eric Spooner, ASSA ABLOY BIM Manager, explains: “BIM is changing the building landscape, bringing with it improvements in design, specification, delivery and asset management. “After working solely on BIM Door Objects for almost five years in the Americas, I’ve seen the majority of challenges faced by BIM practitioners in both architect and contractor practices. “With this CPD, ASSA ABLOY UK Specification aims to help architects and specifiers understand how to enhance the efficiency of their BIM Object development

via a number of web-based solutions. “One such solution is Openings Studio, a Revit plugin and cloud-based scheduling software for doors and ironmongery that streamlines the specification process, as well as reduces costs throughout the project lifecycle.” To register for our RIBA accredited CPD, please visit www.assaabloy.co.uk/CPD or for more information on BIM capacity, please visit www.assaabloy.co.uk/bim .

ASSA ABLOY acquires Dale Hardware and Excel Architectural Hardware

ASSA ABLOY has acquired Dale Hardware and Excel Architectural Hardware as part of its acquisition of the Progress Ventures Group (“Dale & Excel”). Dale and Excel are the leading suppliers of architectural hardware to builder’s merchants in the UK. ASSA ABLOY is an international group with around 47,000 employees and sales close to £6.4 billion. In the UK, ASSA ABLOY is best known for the Yale and UNION brands and has its Head Office and main manufacturing centre in Willenhall. Given the strong commercial synergies between Dale, Excel and ASSA ABLOY Limited, in particular with the ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions business unit, the acquisition will create opportunities for both businesses to add greater value to its customers by offering a wider innovative product range. Both Dale & Excel will continue to operate as autonomous businesses as part of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, retaining the existing strong commercial and operational team that has made the business successful today. Existing customer contact points remain unchanged. “I am very pleased to welcome Dale & Excel into the ASSA ABLOY Group. Dale & Excel are leading suppliers of high quality architectural hardware with an extensive product portfolio, a strong track record of growth and new innovative product development. Dale’s products will extend the UNION offering into the commercial market in the UK” says Neil Vann, Market Region Manager and Managing Director of ASSA ABLOY UK. Dale was established in 1974 and has its headquarters near Leeds. The business employs approximately 70 employees and 2018 sales are expected to reach around £19 million. www.assaabloy.com
