Garador’s Managing Director Simon Hipgrave explains: “All of our doors, from rollers and sectionals, through to up & over doors, have been designed to comply with European safety legislation, so our customers can be assured they are buying a product that is safe to use.” This means that all their doors have been rigorously tested by an external body and are therefore safe for homeowners to use and can provide people with peace of mind that when they purchase a Garador product it will be manufactured to a certain standard. Garador’s canopy Up & Over doors have an anti-drop safety device built in, so the door won’t come crashing down in the event of a spring or cable failure.

Simon continues: “It is also worth checking for additional safety features. For instance, Garador’s GaraRoll is the only spring balanced roller door which uses force limitation built into the operator to ensure the door is always safe to use and will never shut on anyone or anything stopped in the entrance.” The safety of a garage door is something that might be taken for granted by customers looking to buy a garage door, but there can be dangers in both fitting and in the operation of garage doors. Whilst many manufacturers have engineered their products to comply with European safety legislation, there are still some rogue traders out there. Standards to look for include full compliance with the European Safety Standard BS EN 13241 meaning the doors have been developed with a number of valuable safety features. Security Security has been and will remain a key area of consideration when purchasing a garage door. By its very nature, a garage door helps to provide a barrier between the garage and the outside world. Garages are still recognised as a key entry point for burglars and intruders and in some cases are considered an easy target where the garage door is poorly designed. Garador’s up & over garage doors are well design to prevent entry by unauthorised persons. They are designed with two- point locking, a reliable locking mechanism and strong panel design that is difficult to breach. Furthermore, Garador’s sectional garage doors are supplied without a handle as standard and therefore do not have a lock hole, denying would- be burglars an opportunity through which they might attempt to gain entry to the garage. Additionally, at 42mm thick, the Premium sectional door models are difficult to get through and when combined with a GaraMatic operator, they are even more secure as the operator securely locks the door shut when closed. Today there are special garage door security features available that help prevent burglars and intruders entering to steal items from the garage or even using the garage to facilitate entry into the main home. Look out for Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation, which is a police approved security standard given to designs that pass strict criteria. Garador was the first garage door manufacturer in the country to offer a full range of popular Up & Over garage doors with full SBD accreditation and today Garador’s Guardian range offers the highest level of security in garage doors. As Garador’s Managing Director, Simon Hipgrave comments: “Our Secured by Design accredited up & over doors have lots of extra security features, to provide that extra bit of security where you need it. They have extra bracing on the back of the door, extra locking points and an improved locking mechanism.” In addition, ensuring security on garage door remotes is an area that is easily overlooked…until you read about the ease with which even teenagers break into highly secure sites. Garador has introduced ground breaking new technology into its remotes, featuring 128-bit security technology used by banks plus integral anti-burglar devices preventing doors from forced unauthorised entry. Looking forward, it is likely that the Environment will become a crucial consideration, as Simon comments: “Environmental

issues are growing every year,” he said. “Many manufacturing companies are now addressing their environmental impact, and this is expected to become more important still in the years ahead”.
