MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL. 6th December. Twenty-seven Members present. Election of President and Viee-President. The Council elected Mr. Joseph E. MacDermott to be President of the Society, and Mr.. Arthur W. Stirling and Mr. Peter Seales to be Vice-Presidents of the Society for the ensuing twelve months. Solicitors' Privileges. The question of Solicitors' rights to interview clients who are detained in prison, which had been referred to at the Half- yearly Meeting of the Society, was considered, and it was decided to address a communica tion to the Minister of Defence on the subject. Compensation for Destroyed Property. Letters were read from members of the Society in reference to the question of remuneration of Solicitors for the preparation of the forms prescribed by the Minister of Finance for claiming compensation for damage inflicted since llth July, 1921. Pending the introduction of legislation •dealing with such claims, no definite reply as to the mode of remuneration for the necessary proceedings could be given by the Council.

13th December. Twenty-six Members present. Extra-Ordinary Members.

The names of the following were submitted for election as Extra-ordinary Members of the Council for the year ending 26th November, 1923 :—By the Incorporated Law Society of Northern Ireland—Mr. S. G. Crymble (President), Mr. Alien, Mr. McCutcheon, Mr. Turnbull, and Mr. Wood. By the Sotithern Law Association—Mr. Deyos (President), Mr. Exham, Mr. Morgan, Mr. P. J. Kavanagh, and Mr. Lane. The ten whose names were submitted were elected. Statutory Committee. The Secretary reported that the Lord Chief Justice of Ireland had appointed the following members of the Council to be the Statutory Committee for the year ending 26th November, 1923:—Mr. MacDermott, Mr. Brady, Mr. Gamble, Mr. Quirke, Mr. Seddall,. Mr. Warren, and Mr. White. Solicitors' Privileges. A letter in reply was read from the Secretary of the Minister of Defence, enclosing a copy of an instruction dated 23rd November, 1922, issued by the Army authorities in reference to visits to prisoners by their legal
