Solicitors' Annual Certificates. Members are reminded that their Annual Certificates for the year ending 5th January, 1923, should be taken out and the duties paid thereon before the 6th February, 1922. Obituary. MR. CHARLES F. MATHEWS, Solicitor, died upon the 6th December, 1921, at his residence, White Lodge, Bushy Park Road, Rathgar, County Dublin. Mr. Mathews served his apprenticeship with Mr. William S. Haves, Dublin, and Mr. Thomas P. Mathews, Dublin ; was admitted in Easter Sittings, 1892, and practised at 38 Dame Street, Dublin. Honourable Distinction. Amongst the New Year Honours is that of a Knighthood conferred on Mr. James Mecredy, M.A., LL.D., Solicitor, a member of the firm of Messrs. T. T. Mecredy and Sons, 91 Merrion Square, Dublin. Mr. Mecredy was admitted a Solicitor in Hilary Sittings, 1878 : he was subsequently called to the English Bar, and in the year 1910 he resumed practice as a Solicitor in Ireland. Mr. Mecredy is Solicitor to the Local Government Board for Ireland. Legal Appointments. Mr. Henry Powell Bridge of Roscrea, and 5 Clare Street, Dublin, has been appointed Crown and Sessional Crown Solicitor for County Tipperary, in room of Mr. Michael Gleeson, resigned. Labourers (Ireland) Acts. The Local Government Board for Ireland have appointed Sir James Mecredy, Solicitor, 91 Merrion Square, Dublin, to act as Taxing Officer for Southern Ireland for the purposes

Commissioners to Administer Oaths. The Lord Chief Justice has appointed the following to be Commissioners to administer Oaths :— John P. Collins, Solicitor, 43 & 44 Lower Sackville Street, Dublin. Alfred W. Glover, Solicitor, 20 Wicklow Street, Dublin. Charles J. Reddy, Solicitor, 14 Westland Row, Dublin. John Skehan, Clerk to Town Commis sioners, Fethard, Co. Tipperary.

New Member. The following has joined the Society :— Patrick J. McCrystal, Mullingar.

Courts (Emergency Powers) Act, 191$. Section 2 (4) of the above Act provides that " His Majesty may, by Order in Council, " at any time determine the operation of " this Act, or provide that this Act shall have " effect subject to such limitations as ma}' " be contained in the Order ; but, subject " to the operation of any such Order in " Council, this Act shall have effect during " the continuance of the present war, and " for a period of six months thereafter." By Order in Council, made on the 10th August, 1921. under the Termination of the Present War (Definition) Act, 1918, and published in the Dublin Gazette of 16th August, 1921, it was ordered that the 31st day of August, 1921,'shall be treated as the date of the termination of the present War.
