Good news and bad in this issue of wiredInUSA with new plants, job losses, mergers and appointments all featuring prominently. CN Wire is investing $42m in a new production facility in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, news which is tempered by the announcement by General Cable of a restructuring program which is expected to lead to 1,000 job losses. The full details of these stories can be found on pages 10 and 13, respectively. Beta LaserMike and NDC Infrared Engineering – both part of the Spectris family of companies – have merged to create NDC Technologies – see page 14, while both Conneaut Industries and Metro Wire and Cable have strengthened the workforce with a number of appointments. The full stories are on pages 18 and 22. There is also cause for celebration for Allied Wire and Cable after being named as 'business of the year' by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce. This was not only for its business but its dedication to charitable causes, especially those focusing on the well being of families. Full details are on page 23. David Bell Editor
