Valerio Battista

Prysmian group CEO Valerio Battista has been elected president of Europacable. The election was resolved during the latest general assembly of the association, which took place in Brussels in conjunction with the start of ‘Visualizing Energy’ week. The general assembly also reaffirmed the Prysmian group’s continuous active involvement in Europacable, withMarcello Del Brenna confirmed as chairman of the Europacable utilities board until 2015, and Philippe Vanhille confirmed chairman of the Europacable telecommunications board until 2016. Antonio Traversi was appointed chairman of Europacable environmental committee. Two years into its re-organization, Europacable has increased its presence in Brussels. It is now strongly involved in the EU energy, data and telecommunication debates, with the European commission, the European parliament and key organizations such as ENTSO-E, the European representation of electricity transmission operators. Cables lost at sea

Italian cable maker Prysmian has reported the probable loss of $38 million worth of power cables in the Mediterranean, after the barge transporting them capsized. The cables were en route from Italy to serve the Deutsche Bucht and Butendiek offshore wind farms in Germany. No one was injured in the accident, which happened in international waters 50 nautical miles southwest of the Italian island of Sardinia. The 1984-built barge was chartered from the Augustea Group.
