FAIRYSTONE STATE PARK – $15 Come along for an adventure on a guided fairy stone hunt inside the state park. Learn about the legend of the fairy stone and have an opportunity to search for these rare mineral crosses formed in rocks subjected to great heat and pressure during the rise of the Appalachian Mountains. Wear old shoes as you will be exploring in red clay along the creek bed for a chance to find these magnificent treasures. Lunch will be on your own in Downtown Stuart featuring “mom and pop” cafes. GLEN ALTON – $15 A little piece of paradise in Giles County is our hiking destination! Glen Alton is an Appalachian homestead and was a working farm up until the 1980’s. The picturesque buildings, majestic trees and pastoral setting make this a great place to take photos, hike along the boardwalks and wetlands for birdwatching and an opportunity to spot spring wildflowers. Lunch will be on your own at the Swinging Bridge Restaurant where you will find “ole-time” southern food with a hillbilly gourmet flair. Registration deadline is April 3. Level II

BALD KNOB HIKE – $15 A short hike up to a rocky out-cropping overlooking the valley at Mountain Lake makes this a great place to take an evening hike and catch a glimpse of the sun as it sets. Unobstructed views make Bald Knob one of the best places to view the sunset in Southwest Virginia. The hike is short but rather steep and terrain includes roots and outcroppings, wear good walking shoes or hiking boots. Dinner will be on your own following the hike at the Palisades Restaurant. Participants should have lunch prior to departure. Registration deadline is May 20. Level III
