1997 NATIONAL FOOTBALL FOUNDATION HONORS Buddy Brown, '97 Co-MVP for the Toreros as a defensive tackle, was recognized by the National Football Foundation (San Diego Chapter) as their 1997 Willie Jones Most Inspirational recipient. Andre Lee, a senior defensive lineman/li.nebacker for the Toreros in 1997, was named a Scholar-Athlete for carrying a 3.0+ g.p.a. as a Business Economics major.

Bob Breitbard, President Emeritus and Founder of the San Diego Hall of Champions, presents Torero quarterback Mike Stadler with his plaque f or being named the Amateur Star of the Month (October, 1997). Stadler led USD to three PFL victories inf our games, completing 63-of- 109 passes f or 847 yards and 15 touchdowns.

USD President Alice B. Hayes and Director of Athletics Tom Iannacone presented f ormer Torero DB Jeb Dougherty with a placque commemorating his "Burger King Scholar-Athlete of the Week " award. By demonstrating consistent excellence both on and off the field, a check f o r $ 10,000 was distributed to the USD General Scholarship Fund in Dougherty's name.
