Brian Murphy enters his first season with the Torero staff as Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach.

Bill brings a unique perspective to the USD football program as a result of his diverse back– ground. His collegiate coaching experience in– cludes six years at the Division I level (CS Fullerton, '9 1-92; New Mexico State, '82-85),
In addition to his coaching duties, Murphy will be the program 's Recruiting Coordinator. He comes to USDfromBaylorUniversitywhere he was Defensive Backs Coach as a Graduate Assistant since May of 1997. Prior to Baylor, he was at the University ofWisconsin-Madison from 1993-1997 where he gained coaching ex– perience as a Graduate Assistant Defensive ._____..._____. Line Coach, Offensive Line Coach and Recruit- ing Coordinator. A graduate of Lehigh University, he earned his Bachelor of A:rts in Inter– national Relations in May, 1992. While at Lehigh, he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain ( 1991 ) on the varsity football team as a de– fensive end. He went on to earn hi s Master of Science in Education Admin– istration in 1997 from the University of Wisconsin, at Madison. A native of Riverside, Illinois, Murphy prepped at Fenwick High School where he graduated in 1987.

Bill worked in professional football as a guest coach on offense for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in the summer of 1998. Off the field, Bill has spoken at numerous football clinics and camps. Bill earned his M.A. in administration from New Mexico State in 1986 and earned hi s B.A. from Occidental in 1981 . While at Occidental, he was a four year starter in football, and a two year letterman in track and field. A 1977 graduate of Ramona High School, Bill is the only member of the Torero staff who prepped in the San Diego Section of the CIF. Prior to USD he was the Head Secondary Coach at Southern Oregon (1994-96). Shay and his wife, Stacey, reside in San Diego. DOUG ELAM-1stYear Receivers Doug begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the receivers. The past two seasons he was receivers coach at Montana State. Prior to that he served on the Puget Sound coaching staff for three seasons (1993-95) as receivers coach. A four-year letterman at Puget Sound as a wide receiver, Doug earned hi s Bachelor of -------=•--..a Arts degree in Physical Education in 1993. From Medford, Oregon, Doug prepped at South Medford High School. I MIKE MORALES -1st Year I Tight Ends
is the school' s all-time career leader in three receiving categories: receptions (101), touch– downs ( 18) and receiving yardage( 1,722 yards). Mike graduated from USD with an Ac– counting degree in 1984. He is the Assistant Vice President for Secondary Marketing for Guild Mortgage Company in San Diego.
JASON BLATT-1st Year Defensive line Jason begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the defensive line. The past two seasons Jason coached at Santa Monica College - he was Defensive Coordinator in 1997, and coached the defensive line both seasons. In 1995 he was offensive and defensive line coach at Montclair Prep in Van Nuys, Calif. A 1994 graduate of the Univ. of Colorado, at Boulder, Jason played four years on the football
team at tight end and fullback. He was a member of the 1990 national championship team, and twice won Big 8 titles ('90 & '91). A two-time Big 8 All-Academic selection, Jason earned his B.A. in Sociology. He went on to earn his M.S. degree in Education in 1996 from USC. KELLY JEFFREY - 1st Year Quarterbacks Kelly begins his first season with the Toreros where he will coach the quarterbacks.
Mike begins hi s first season with the Toreros where he will coach the tight ends. This past season he was quarterbacks coach at LaJolla Country Day High School. A 1997 graduate of the University of the Pacific where he earned his B.A. degree in Sports Science, Mike played three years for the
The past two seasons he was running backs coach at Northern State University in South Da– kota. During the '94 and '95 seasons he was receivers coach at Dickinson State University. He earned his Health and Physical Ed. degree from Dickinson in 1996, and later earned hi s M.S. degree in P.E. from Northern State in '98.
Tigers ( 19993-95) at tightend. He fini shed out - --------– hi s collegiate career at Arizona State where he was a fullback and long snapper on the 1996 Pac- IO championship team that advanced to the Rose Bowl. From San Jose, California, Mike was a three-year starter at quarterback for Gunderson High School.
He played quarterback for Southern Oregon between 1990-93 where he was a teammate of current Torero coach Shay McClure. His teams won two league titles in the Mt. Hood Columbia Football Association.
