SPIFAN Stakeholder Panel (September 23, 2017)

Background on Methods

• In last two years – Methods have been submitted for all of these nutrients for ERP review and consideration – Outcomes • AOAC Official Method for Tryptophan only • During the March 2017 ERP meeting, a recommendation was made to ask the working group to reconsider SMPR reproducibility requirements for Amino Acids • It was preferable to have an all in one method for the B vitamins (B 1 , B 2 , B 3 , and B 6 ) – method approved for vitamins B 1 , B 2 , and B 6 , but not for vitamin B3 • Recoveries for submitted GOS methods reviewed did not meet SMPR recoveries • No new fluoride methods submitted since last September when SPIFAN agreed to reopening the Call for Methods without changing the SMPR Amino Acids – Ping Feng (Wyeth/Nestlé) • There are amino acid methods • SMPR approved in 2014 – Precision and reproducibility requirements in the SMPR may need to be revisited • Criteria used to determine repeatability and reproducibility in SMPR may need to be reconsidered – No real data available to base these parameters, so they were based on Horwitz equation • Recommendation of SPIFAN ?
