U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor presented the annual Nathaniel L. Nathanson Lecture on April 9 at Shiley The– atre, speaking on the late Oliver Wendell Holmes. Among the speakers visiting USD in recent months: Jesse L. Jackson Jr., president of the "Keep Hope Alive" Political Action Committee, addressed "Campus Racism and Civil Rights" as the keynote speaker at the USD School of Law's weeklong observance of the birthday of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The observance was sponsored by the USD Black American Law Students Association and also featured speakers Gordon A. Marlin, justice of the Massachusetts Trial Court; prominent civil rights attorney Lloyd Tooks; Wes Prall, recipient of the USD Law School 1989 Distinguished Alumni Award; Regina Petty, partner, Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye; and civil rights consultant Thomas Gayton. Claire Fagin, dean,Schoolof Nursing, University of Pennsylvania, spoke at the USD Philip Y. Hahn School of Nursing on Feb. 11. Her topic was "Health and the Public Purpose."
