31 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Football Rick Storey, team manager, sums up last season’s 1st XI performance: ‘outstanding team spirit in the face of adversity’. The team played 10, won 3, drew 5 and lost 2. Highlights included our reliable Senior Prefect centre back pairing of Henry Johnson ( Junior King’s ) and Bastian Tholstrup ( Caldicott ); dynamic energy and skill from Maximilian Heil ( St Alban’s College, South Africa ); long range shots from Paul Beckers ( Lycée Français Victor Hugo ); and Golden Boot winner Oare Ezekiel’s ( Caldicott ) record of played 8, scored 8. Player of the season was JJ Postlethwaite ( Bruern Abbey ).

Swimming By Rebecca Clark, Head of Swimming Swimming continued to go from strength to strength last term, with a particular increase in girls’ participation and with pupils from across all year groups representing the School competitively. Fixtures this term included: Abingdon Sprints Swimming Gala Thursday 11th February A highly competitive afternoon against Abingdon, Bromsgrove, Winchester College, Cheltenham, Oratory and St Helen & St Katherine’s in which we fielded boys’ teams in all three age groups and a senior girls’ team. The U18 freestyle relay team gave an exceptional performance, winning their event. Oratory School Swimming Gala Tuesday 1st March This was our first competitive swimming fixture against Oratory. It took place in their new pool and proved to be a very exciting afternoon ending in a draw. Our U14s swam exceedingly well against Oratory’s U15s and the senior teams were well matched. The boys showed some excellent race technique.

Returning again to this fantastic event where public schools from across Britain compete for the prize trophies was yet again a real treat; we were proud to field both a boys’ and

girls’ team this year. All pupils swam their best and gained valuable 50m experience. There was a real sense of team spirit and we came away with some individual and team PBs.
