Baxter Box returns for hi s third season with the Toreros where he is projected to compete for a starting role in the backfield at running back ... last season he carried the ball nine times for 44 yards .. . gained 35 yards with a long of IO yards against La Verne ... caught 3 ball s for 18 yards agai nst Yale ... was named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll ... also one of three Toreros to receive the Strength Coaches Award ... prior to USO he attended Highl and Park Hi gh Schoo l in Dall as, Texas ... he was a two-sport letterman in football and track ... his senior year he rushed for 1,200 yards and was a 1st Team All -District selecti on ... during hi s junior year he rushed for 800 yards and was a Ist Team All -District pick and the Dall as area MVP ... hi s father, Bernay, pl ayed baseball at Baylor; hi s grandfather, Boyce, pl ayed basketball at North Carolina .. . chose USO for academi cs, football and the beach .. . also recruited by Princeton, Harvard and SMU. competiti on ... he is projected to start again at the position of defen sive end .. . last season he totaled 25 tackles ( 11 so lo), good fo r 12th on the team ... totaled 8 tackl es (3 for loss) against La Verne .. . chipped in with 2 pass breakups and I bl ocked kick .. . in 200 I fin al game of the season, he totaled six tackles against Wagner with three quarterback sacks (-2 1 yards) ... the three sacks tied a USD single-game record set back in 1989 by David Dunn ... prior to USO he prepped at Woodinville Hi gh School in the state of Washington .. . senior year was team captain and 2nd Team All -King County at linebacker & tight end .. . recorded 76 tackles and 2 interceptions .. . also lettered in basketball ... chose USO fo r quality educati on and football , as well as the great weather ... also recruited by Oregon State,

Paul Kumer returns for hi s junior year where thi s season he will compete for pl aying time at the linebacker position ... last season at rover he fini shed tied for 14th in team tackl es with 2 1 (1 3 solo) .. . three of his tackles went for loss and he also contributed I forced fumbl e and 2 fumbl e recoveries ... he tallied a game-best 5 tackles in USD's road game at Yale .. . also totaled 4 stops against La Verne and Southern Oregon .. . freshman year had 4 tackles in 4 appearances .. . prepped at Christopher Columbus HS where he totaled 70 tackles and 15 quarterback sacks his senior year ... team went 9-3 senior year and were District Champi ons ... also lettered in basketball and track & field .. . he "------'---....;;a was honorable mention all-county in track (49.5 in 400 meters) .. . also recruited by Air Force, Navy and Princeton.
