Mike Matoso, who was elevated to Assis– tant Athletics Director last year, is in his fourth season as USD 's Compliance Coordinator, and fifth year with the USO staff. Four seasons ago he was the department's Academic Support Co– ordinator. Prior to USO, he spent three years as the Academic Counselor at USC where he was involved with the football, baseball, women's soccer, swimming and volleyball programs. Prior to USC, Mike served as the Academic Advisor for all 18 intercollegiate programs for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for two years. He earned both his B.S. degree in Physical Education ( 1993) and M.A. in Education, Counseling (1994) from Ca l Poly. He was also a starting pitcher for the Mustangs baseball team that finished 2 nd in the Division II College World Series. Mike and hi s wife, Kelly, reside in Carlsbad with their two children, Abigail and their newborn son, Cole. Erin Sheehan, held positions as Publishing Product Manager for Advanced Marketing Services, Inc. in San Diego; as Development Relations Manager for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Oregon; and as Special Events Program Coordinator for the Office ofDevelopment at the University of Oregon. She received her Master ofArts in Arts & Administration (empha– sis in Management and Marketing) from the University of Oregon in 1998. She received her B.F.A. in Graphic Design, with a minor in Marketing, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1994. ~~~~~~ Derek Hillestad JCP Asst. Director/Events Manager Derek Hillestad begins his second year as Assistant Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion and Events Manager. He came to USO from Ball State Univer– During this time he was also a Security Control Supervisor for the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also earned job related experience as an Event Operations Supervisor for Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin; as a Program Assistant for the Department of Recreational Sports at Texas A&M; and as Event Co-Coordinator for the Department of Recreation Management at the University of Wis– consin-La Crosse. He graduated from Wisconsin-La Crosse with a B.S. in Recreation Management (2000), and is currently working towards his M.S . in Athletic Administration through Ball State University. Tony Valle Athletics Ticket Manager Tony Valle begins his second yearas USD's Athletics Ticket Manager at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Prior to that he was a Customer Service Manager at Ohio State University for a little more than one year. He earned his Bachelor ofArts in Sociology from Ohio State University in 1999, and a B.A. in Criminology in 1998. Prior to that she

athletic staffsince 1975. He was the school's first head women's volleyball coach, a post he held through the 1989 season, and also oversaw the Recreation Depart– ment. As volleyball coach, he directed theToreros to three postseason appearances, including a 4th place · fini sh at the 1976 AIAW Nationals. As Associate AD for Facilities & Operations, Martin oversees all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing. He was the department's key liason during the construction of the Jenny Craig Pavilion which opened in October, 2000. A graduate of San Diego State (B.A. & M.A. in History), John resides in Encinitas with hi s wife Jane. They have two children: Eliza, a 200 I graduate of USO, and son, Patrick, a junior at USO. This past year John was recognized as one of two Student Affairs Employees of the Year. Andy Fee, Asst. AD for Athletic Facilities & Operations Andy Fee is in his second year at USO, and his first in the position of Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations. Fee assists John Martin in overseeing all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing for the ..________. department's athletic venues. Fee came to USO from Arizona State University where he was Assistant Director of Facility Operations for Athletics the past two seasons. Before that he was Facility Supervisor for the ASU Student Recreation Complex. Besides hi s work at ASU, he developed Athletics and Management skills with the NFL Cardinals, Fiesta Bowl and PGA Phoenix Open. From Scottsdale, Arizona, he earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in History in 1996 from Arizona State University. Andy and his wife, Nicole, were married this past August and reside in San Diego.

Director ofJenny Craig Pavilion Josh Lawrence is the Director ofthe Jenny Craig Pavilion and comes to USD after 7 years at UC San Diego, where his responsibilities in– cluded managing the RlMAC Arena. Josh 's du– ties included coordinating a ll events, from ath-

Here at USO, Josh's responsibilities will include scheduling, staffing and all management aspects ofthe Jenny Craig Pav ilion. In this capacity he will manage the daily operations of the facility, including event management and marketing of the Pavilion. Josh received hi s B.S. from UC San Diego in 1993 with a double major in Political Science and U.S. History.

Dean Aresco Strength & Conditioning Coach

Dean Aresco is in hi s third season as

USD's Strength and Conditioning Coach.

He came to USO via Towson State Univer– sity where he was their head coach for three seasons. Additional profess ional experiences include stints at the Uni– versity ofConnecticut as a Graduate Assistant, and at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego as the interim Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. He earned his B.S. in Exercise Physiology in 1995 from the University of Connecticut, and is close to completing hi s M .A. degree there in the same field. A NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he also holds memberships with NSCA, the U.S.Weightlifting Federation, and the American College of Sports Medicine.
