Dr. Carlos Manrique de Lara is an Eye Surgeon dedicated to Refractive Surgery. Board Certified by the American Board of

Ophthalmology, Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of American College of Eye Surgeons, Dr. Manrique is

the Medical Director of Manrique Custom Vision in San Antonio, McAllen and Harlingen, Texas. He has an extensive training

background began at Harbor Hospital Center Baltimore and the University of Texas Galveston. He also trained in Neurology at

Vanderbilt University and Neuro-Ophthalmology at Michigan State University. Dr. Manrique was the Chief Resident at the

University of Tennessee Chattanooga. He has been a Professor at University of Texas, Texas A&M College of Medicine and

Scott & White Clinic. Dr. Manrique is a member, in good standing, with many associations including American Academy of

Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Texas Medical Association (TMA). He

was named in 2011 one of 15 Leaders in Laser Eye Surgery by Newsweek Magazine.

He has been voted several years as Favorite Lasik Surgeon by The Monitor Newspaper in McAllen and Valley Morning Star

Newspaper in Harlingen, Texas. He has been recognized by McAllen Chamber of Commerce as Top 5 Business, awarded

Specialty Physician of The Year by The McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Businessman of the Year by the Rio

Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce where he also received a Congressional Certificate of Recognition, as well as

selected as one of America’s Top ophthalmologists by the Consumers Research Council for the last 8 years. Manrique Custom

Vision has been named Best of San Antonio in Laser Vision Correction Surgeons by U.S. Commerce Association.

Dr. Manrique was also Founder and First Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, a

physician owned 600 bed facility spread over 120 acres that include a Women's Hospital, a Rehabilitation Hospital, Heart

Hospital, Cancer Center and Behavioral Hospital and with 4,000 employees, one of the largest employers in South Texas. He

has been at the Board of Governors and is currently a member of the Finance Committee.

He firmly believes in keeping up with technology. He is a trainer for the Blade Free AMO-IntraLase and for the Alcon

WaveLight Laser Systems. He is also a Medical Advisor for the Blade Free Ziemer technology, a keynote speaker for the Alcon

Restor Intra Ocular Lens and a Speaker for Allergan Pharmaceutical Restasis. Even with his busy schedule, he finds time to

serve his community and has been President of the McAllen Boys and Girls Club, Vice Chair of Border Health Political Action

Committee (PAC), and a member of the President’s Circle of University of Texas Pan American (UTPA).

Dr. Carlos Manrique de Lara is happily married and has 6 children. He enjoys spending time with his family, jogging, skiing,

history and travel. He also enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
