Erik Chotiner, MD, FACS, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. He received his

medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where he was the recipient of multiple

academic, clinical, and research awards. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Temple University in

Philadelphia followed by a year long corneal/refractive fellowship at the University of California in San Diego.

In 2006, Dr. Chotiner began his private practice career at Memorial Eye Institute in Harrisburg, PA. His father,

Dr. Bennett Chotiner, had founded the Institute 30 years earlier. Memorial Eye Institute is a full service

ophthalmic practice and surgery center with a comprehensive staff of ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses,

ophthalmic technicians and opticians. Established in 1985, it was Pennsylvania’s first fully approved, licensed,

and accredited outpatient ophthalmic surgery center.

Dr. Chotiner is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American College of

Surgeons. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at The Pennsylvania State University College

of Medicine in Hershey, PA. In this role, he participates in the education and training of residents and medical

students. He is a member of numerous medical and ophthalmic societies and organizations, and is active in both

the medical and ophthalmic communities.

Dr. Chotiner specializes in anterior segment surgery with an emphasis on corneal and lens based refractive

procedures. He was one of the first physicians in Pennsylvania to perform femtosecond laser assisted cataract

surgery.

Dr. Chotiner’s avocational interests include ophthalmic videography and the clinical applications of smartphone

technology. Memorial Eye Institute’s fully equipped digital video production studio has recently been renovated

and upgraded, and supports the Institute’s clinical and educational activities.

Dr. Chotiner is an avid sports enthusiast (tennis, golf, skiing). He lives in Harrisburg with his wife Robyn and

his children Lauryn (age 11) and Michael (age 9). He enjoys attending Broadway musicals, classic rock concerts,

and professional sporting events.
