We arrived a few days early so we could live it up as well as relax in Los Cabos before our big day. It was easy for us because -- as a wedding present – our entire wedding party arrived via private jet. I will never forget the view of the turquoise ocean, white sand beaches, green mountains and desert canyons as we approached the airport. Our group occupied almost the entire hotel. The resort pool and ceviche bar quickly became our mission control center. Perfect weather, great friends, good Tequila and a load of fun on the beach, set the stage for the days to come. We found there was another good reason for coming in early… Lorraine, my maid of honor, and the best man, had scoped out the local hotspots and conspired to ensure that our “Bachelor and Bachelorette” parties did not cross paths literally all night. The hotel wedding and event staff put together a customized menu of activities with something for all our guests. Their ideas included kayak races, horseback riding, ATV excursions, even an art walk through San Jose del Cabo for the less adventurous. Margie and a few others tried surfing. What a sight! But after a few quick lessons she caught a wave and was flying solo. Our new hero! For the entire group, we organized

a sunset cruise around the famous El Arco which was spectacular! The sunset painted with pinks, lavenders and blues, the rays bouncing off the Pacific, presented a true Mother Nature’s masterpiece. For me, the highlight was the spa day with my bridesmaids and closest family before the wedding. Being pampered in ways I never imagined and in a setting, even hard for Hollywood stage designers to dream up, was beyond description. Of course, a few tears while having my hair fluffed by the stylist and being dressed from head to toe by my mother and sister was unforgettable. I felt like Cinderella when this elegant carriage drawn by two white horses swept us away from the church. Surrounded by the sea and decorated with palms, we shared our vows with our family and dearest friends. The natural beauty of Los Cabos was on full display and will be etched in our memories forever. The rest of our evening was amazing! The tables were so colorful and rich. The food was so delicious. The music was terrific and we danced the night away. When the limo finally came to carry us away to our private villa, all I could say was… Gracias Los Cabos!

Global inspiration

It’s not often you come across a studio that specializes in making bespoke, hand-crafted globes. And that’s exactly why the globes of Bellerby & Co have garnered such attention, even being used as props in Hollywood movies. In an intimate North London studio, a small team of craftsmen bring their skills of carpentry, design and illustration together to produce each item according to the client’s exacting requirements. Of the models on offer, it’s the 50in-diameter Churchill globe that takes pride of place; mirroring a pair of globes Winston Churchill and Franklin D Roosevelt were presented during WW2, the Churchill globe is limited to a series of 40 and made at a rate of just one or two per year. Some clients ask to have the places they’ve traveled to illustrated on the surface, others ask for their hometown to be given its rightful place. With recent commissions including a one-off globe for Royal Ascot, clientele can be certain they’re in fine company as a Bellerby & Co globe-owner. To incorporate the moonphase, Rolex moved the date indication from a subdial to a track on the outside of the dial

A NEW MOONPHASE FOR ROLEX For its first moonphase complication since the 1950s, Rolex introduces its most elegant Cellini watch to date. We love Rolex’s dressier collection, Cellini, that was reintroduced in 2014. The timepieces have graceful 39mm cases with a domed and fluted double bezel. The new 18K Everose gold Cellini Moonphase has a white lacquer dial with a stunning blue enamel moonphase subdial. The rotating disc shows a full moon with a piece of meteorite and the newmoon with a silver ring. To read the moonphase, there is an indicator at 12 o’clock on the subdial. Accuracy is one of Rolex’s hallmarks. It famously certifies its timepieces as Superlative Chronometers, which means they are accurate to -2/+2 seconds per day, and this is more difficult to achieve than a traditional chronometer certification fromCOSC. In addition, the patented moonphase complication in the automatic movement is accurate for 122 years. $26,750, available atWempe in NewYork, +1 212 759 8278, rolex.com

Porsche DesignMonobloc Actuator Chronograph

One of the most unexpected watches at Baselworld this year came from Porsche Design. True, a watch from Porsche Design that is inspired by a Porsche car is not usually groundbreaking, but this chronograph had everyone buzzing. The exclusive, patented and world-first chronograph movement is completely unique and was four years in the making. Instead of pressing a pusher to activate the chronograph, it is initiated by moving part of the case using a rocking mechanism. This rocking mechanism is inspired by the part of the car engine responsible for steering, which also uses a rocker arm. Here, the rocker is linked to the movement and when activated, the rocking part of the case actually slides over the sapphire crystal, which is flat and has an extra-hard coating so there’s no scratching from debris when it moves. Aside from being very cool, and quite satisfying to click, it’s tightly sealed, which means you can activate the chronograph underwater, which is fairly rare. In this limited edition piece, the Porsche 911 RSR is the inspiration for the matte black carbon dial and red details. At nine o’clock there’s a flag disc which shows if the movement is working. Porsche DesignMonobloc Actuator 24-hour Chronotimer, limited to 251 pieces, $7,800, available online at porsche-design.com

BRAND PROFILE FRANCK DUBARRY

After founding and selling TechnoMarine watches, originally known for pairing diamond-set cases with plastic bands, Franck Dubarry created his eponymous company, keeping his playful and creative vision. Here, he combines French design with Swiss watchmaking, eschewing traditional design codes, which allows him to be more innovative. Contact Nadège Levy, sales coordinator, nadege@franckdubarry.com, franckdubarry.com 1. Crazy Balls For his return to horology, Franck Dubarry decided to make a splash with a cheerful complication. Twelve balls sit at the hour markers in a channel, held in place by magnets. As your wrist moves, they rotate around the dial. Shake your wrist, and they’ll crash into each other. Another shake will snap them back into place. $5,350 in 18K rose gold with gold balls 2. Revolution GMT This watch showcases Dubarry’s affinity with Argentinian street art, as seen on the hand-painted Fileteado Porteño motif on the dial. The case is engraved with curved lines for more drama. The automatic watch shows hours, minutes, date and has a 24-hour GMT hand. $22,600 in 18K rose gold with black vanity dial 3. CrazyWheel The subdial showing the hours is placed on the minute hand, which is itself a rotating bridge. This means the hour subdial moves around the face of the watch as the minutes pass. A mechanical differential keeps the hour dial horizontal, so you don’t have to turn your head upside-down to read the time. $9,500 in titanium with red wheel

In addition to its innovative chronograph, it also has a GMT hand

Men’s style

UNLINED, BUT NOT UNDERDRESSED One of the keys to dressing well, while not sweating bullets during the summer months, isminimizing the number of layers you are wearing. As we near the hottest and most humid time of the year, your goal will be to simplify and pare down. However, this can be tough if you are in an environment that requires a jacket. The solution is a half-lined, or sometimes fully unlined, suit or blazer. These will become your go-tos, because they provide a buttoned-up look without the bulk. They can be worn to the office paired with a shirt and tie, or dressed down with a T-shirt as a light outerwear piece. Sometimes it can actually take more skill to create an unlined suit, such as this cotton two-button notched lapel suit with patch pockets, than it does for a lined suit, where the imperfections can be hidden underneath; when a garment is unlined, every little detail is visible. Dries Van Noten is a master of creating clothes that are on one hand a product of his left-brain intellectual studies, and yet result in pieces that emit such a poetic

visual language that they end up stimulating the right-brain as well. But Van Noten is not interested in designing collections to be placed in museums. He wants his clothing to be worn, and there’s no doubt this double-breasted look will be. Finally, not many labels can make army pants and sneakers look dressed-up, but Brunello Cucinelli elevates the mundane and makes it luxurious. Here Cucinelli pairs themwith a half-lined three-pocket jacket, a slim-fit shirt and solid tie.

This unlined Ralph Lauren double-breasted sport coat in a linen and wool blend provides an effortlessly pulled-together look when worn with a simple crewneck T-shirt and espadrilles. LBM 1911 is an Italian heritage brand known for their relaxed tailoring, but don’t take their unstructured jackets to be a lack of craftsmanship.

For the 45th anniversary of the illustrious luxury Italian house of Stefano Ricci, no expense was spared to commemorate the occasion. A special anniversary fashion show during Pitti Uomo was followed by a seated dinner held at the exclusive Sala Bianca at Palazzo Pitti. This historic location in Florence helped put Italy on the map as one of the fashion capitals of the world— it’s where Valentino showed his first collection. There’s even a book entitled The Sala Bianca: The Birth Of Italian Fashion . This significant setting was the perfect backdrop for the momentous event, where classical singer Andrea Bocelli walked the runway, and later in the evening his sons performed at the dinner. Fans of Stefano Ricci will not be disappointed with the new collection. It is a celebration of elegance, luxurious fabrics, and expertise in the tradition of tailoring. Throughout the show, male models were sent down the runway alongside children who were wearing miniature versions of the same looks, from perfectly constructed Stefano Ricci celebrates 45 years

In our opinion, the best part of the continued blurring between seasons is not having to retire your wardrobe or rotate your closet. Florals in fall? Sure! White after Labor Day? Absolutely! Pastels year-round? You bet!

At Altuzarra, a belted cocktail dress with fabulous pleated ruffles comes in a sorbet-tangerine color, perfect for hot summer nights. Tomas Maier showed a kitschy collection with nods to the 1940s at Bottega Veneta, including a sweet pale yellow skirt suit. Finally, at Tome, Australian designers Ryan Lobo and RamonMartin create an unexpectedly perfect pairing with a romantic pink skirt and a sleeveless button-up. Worn with bright opaque tights and red shoes (another trend: pink and red together), it’s ready for fall with just an addition of a coat.

Pre-fall’s pastels are perfect to carry you through the warmmonths and remain perfectly in style come the end of the summer. At Dior, new artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri offered a wide array of looks in her show, ranging from equestrienne to flower child, reflecting the pervading notion of the importance of individuality and creativity in fashion. There’s no longer a checklist needed to be on trend—designers are letting their clients choose. We love this ombré dress combining pale orange and mint colors.

elite traveler JULY/AUG 2017 30 Jewelry Tropical treasures Nature and its fragile ecosystem has been top of the news and top of designers’ minds lately. Beautiful, artistic odes to far-flung destinations and exotic animals are seen throughout the fashion and jewelry worlds. Our favorite tropical pieces incorporate a bit of whimsy. Bulgari’s high jewelry collection celebrates the Italian countryside with carved rubellite, amethyst and aquamarine. From the Granville collection, honoring Mr Dior’s beautiful garden, a stunning 11.47-carat green tourmaline shines in the center of a ring that calls to mind the bounty of the earth. At Tiffany & Co, its Blue Book pieces are the pinnacle of its creativity and craftsmanship. For the Art of the Wild, the collection visits the jungle, here represented by a stunning 35.90-carat green tourmaline with diamond branches gently climbing up it. De Grisogono, Lydia Courteille and Wendy Yue all took inspiration from tropical birds. FAN FAVORITES A recent trend in the jewelry world, fan-shaped jewelry, has been catching our eye. With a bit of a vintage feel, these pieces remain thoroughly modern and showcase excellent craftsmanship and some special stones. Picchiotti designed a couture ring to celebrate its 50th anniversary. It even graces the cover of the recent tome by jewelry historian Vivienne Becker that showcases half a century of noteworthy jewels from the Italian house. Becker says Picchiotti jewels have a “subtle and seamless combination of graphic architectural rigor with a soft, sensual femininity,” which can be seen in this diamond and ruby ring. Another Italian-inspired house, de Grisogono, finds inspiration in the fan. The Ventaglio collection is a staple of the brand and is seen on many red carpets. This bracelet mixes rows of emeralds and diamonds on the fan, and only emeralds appear on the swirling bracelet. Earrings naturally suit fan shapes, which can be quite dramatic when strands of stones hang from them. In its Limelight Couture Précieuse collection, Piaget showed several pieces with fans. Here, an open- worked fan has 430 delicate brilliant-cut diamonds which is accented by 10 rubellites. Sanjay Kasliwal’s fan earrings feature emeralds and South Sea pearls falling in strands from diamond-adorned fans. At Sutra, fan motifs are a recurring theme for the designer. In these earrings, rose-cut rubies themselves form the fan. At Verdura, a stunning 212 carats of sapphires fan out from diamonds to form a spectacular bracelet. Finally, Spark Creations’ delicate diamond fan pendant necklace is an easy way to wear the trend every day.

The BACMono is a pure, unadulterated, raw-driving supercar that is as close as most people will ever get to driving a Formula-level car

THE SUPERCAR: BAC MONO

“It is time for a global Britain” was a frequent rallying cry for leave campaigners during 2016’s European Union referendum in the UK, and one year on, the world is starting to see just what a ‘global Britain’ actually looks like. The UK’s vote to leave the EU has transformed every British diplomat, politician and CEO into a traveling salesman, peddling British wares to every part of the world. As a Brit myself, I welcome this heightened focus on British export; from Rolls-Royce engines to a pair of Purdey shoes, Brits have a long heritage in luxury craftsmanship. And currently there are few examples of British craftsmanship at its best more compelling than the BAC Mono supercar. Thanks partly to the two-time All-Star baseball player, CJ Wilson, who is a long-time car racer and has just reached a multi-level dealership agreement with BAC, the Liverpool-manufactured supercar has now arrived in the US. So what can you expect from this new export? Well, unlike most high-end cars, the BAC Mono has absolutely nothing to do with transport. With a single seat and no storage space, this car is not designed for a romantic weekend drive up the Pacific Coast. The BAC Mono is a pure, unadulterated, raw-driving supercar that is probably as close as most people are likely to ever get to driving a Formula- level car. As you would expect, it is extremely fast; it does 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds, and certainly looks and feels more like a track car than something you would expect to have on the road. When BAC founder, Ian Briggs, designed the car, he sought his inspiration “not from any other car, but from examining spaceships and superyachts,” and the Mono is the result of this vision. Weighing only 1,190lbs, the very low center of gravity provides extraordinary balance, which enables it to drive as effectively on a country lane as it does on a mountain pass. There is little practical point to owning the BAC Mono, but where’s the fun in always following logic? It’s a dirty little secret, which anyone with a desire for pure driving should experience. THE CLASSIC: BENTLEY BLOWER

refused to make his preferred supercharged option of car, so Birkin decided to do it himself. With the help of his friend and engineer, Amherst Villiers, they created the new car themselves against the wishes of WO Bentley, and Birkin’s Bentley Blower was born. Realizing the wide appeal of the stripped-down supercharged model, the car was brought into production by Bentley and 50 original Blower models were built. Many of these are still around and likely to set you back about $2.5m, but to connoisseurs of classic cars nothing else really comes close. From$2.5m, contact sales@stanleymann.com,

When Sir John Birkin was researching his film, Full Throttle , he returned to the site of his demolished grand family home, Ruddington Grange near Nottingham in England, to familiarize himself with the surroundings. On a stable wall that had survived the destruction, he found the words “every day, in every way, faster and faster.” They were written by his great-great uncle, Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin, a dashing pioneer of British motor racing and one of the infamous Bentley Boys of the 1920s. There is no doubt Birkin was obsessed with speed, and was determined to find a way to increase the pace of his 4.5-liter engine rather than opt for the heavier 6.5-liter engine that WO Bentley, the company founder, saw as the answer. The annual GenevaMotor Show rarely fails to surprise its visitors with a collection of futuristic show cars, and this year was no different. Of all the cars displayed, perhaps themost eye-catching was the Airbus Pop.Up, a pod-like car that turns into a quad-copter flyingmachine at the click of a button. It looksmore like a prop from Independence Day than amotor vehicle, but flying cars are slowly becoming a reality. Traffic jams could soon be a thing of the past, as the fully autonomousmachine can take off and landwherever you ask it to. No doubt there will be significant airspace regulations to navigate first, but Airbus are saying they hope to have it in production within 10 years. We’ll believe it whenwe see it, but it is certainly something to look out for. airbusgroup.com THE FUTURE: AIRBUS POP.UP

Aviation

Forget piston engines, the world’s first single- turbine-engine jet is set to revolutionize personal aviation. And it’s not a prototype with deliveries still years away—the first jets have already been delivered, and there is a waiting list of over 600 Walking onto the tarmac at Westchester County Airport, New York, there was no question which plane we were going to fly; the Vision Jet looks like nothing else out there. Once inside, I started the jet as easily as starting many of today’s cars: with the push of a button. The flight deck looks radically different; it’s more akin to a car’s dashboard. Easy-to-read screens with the user-friendly Cirrus Perspective Touch system by Garmin make flying more simple by automating many of the plane’s systems, and they include many safety features that prevent dangerous flying. The 14in-wide hi-res flight displays with three touch- screen controllers offer a wealth of information about the plane at a glance, and Synthetic Vision Technology shows what’s up ahead— even if visibility is bad— so you’re always aware of hazards. If you’re nervous about flying your family without a copilot and with only a single turbofanWilliams International FJ33-5A jet engine, don’t be. Every Cirrus plane comes with the added security of a CAPS parachute, which, in case of emergency, will safely stop the plane and gently float it to the ground at a speed of 25ft per second once deployed. The goal of the Vision Jet is to make flying in a personal aircraft a comfortable experience, and it’s not just for those obsessed with aviation. To this end, you’ll find USB chargers, headphone plug-ins for Sirius radio, optional entertainment system, cup holders and more. Thanks to its monocoque carbon fiber fuselage, which is ultra light and incredibly strong, Cirrus was able to use large windows on both the sides and front of the plane, providing outstanding visibility and making the cabin feel light and airy. It comfortably sits five adults and two children in luxurious leather seats that recline and are easy to move. It’s best suited for regional transportation, so whether you’re flying between offices, on a golfing weekend hitting multiple courses, or flying to your second home, the Vision Jet — and you— can handle it. Interior With its Xi

personalization program, you can customize your plane both inside and out, even matching the color of the leather to the exact color of your Lamborghini Exterior The V-tail design is not just cool (expect air traffic controllers and other pilots to ask you what the heck you’re flying and for crowds to surround the jet on the tarmac), it is also a clever solution to reduce cabin noise by placing the engine above and behind passengers
