New formulation technology for Teknor Apex FireGUARD ® low-flame, low-smoke plenum compounds eliminates much of the high cost of connectorisation in plant or campus data networks by making continuous indoor/outdoor (I/O) optical fibre cables possible. The I/O formulations provide the UV resistance and anti-microbial properties required for outdoor exposure without trade-offs in the physical, electrical and flame and smoke properties available with standard FireGUARD grades. The new formulations are available for all FireGUARD compounds used as jackets in plenum applications. In large corporate or institutional settings, FireGUARD I/O compounds for optical fibre cables withstand exposure to solar UV and fungus, while passing the rigorous tests for flame and smoke performance required to ensure indoor safety. Continuous cabling enables installers to avoid the added time, hardware, and cost for connecting outdoor cable to indoor at the point where it enters a building. A new class of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds, fully RoHS-compliant, meets stringent UL criteria for fire retardance while providing flexibility and toughness over a broad temperature range. The new additions to the Elexar ® product range are available with hardnesses from Shore 56A to 90A and recommended for insulation, jackets, and moulded parts for flexible cords, coil cords and cables in power tools, appliances, industrial robots, welding equipment, and entertainment audio and lighting systems. All grades meet UL94 V-0 flame test requirements and are formulated to pass UL-1581 continuous rating of 125°C.
