We selected The Rite of Spring, one of Stravinsky’s most influential works, to expand the viola solo repertoire. With careful attention to the scale, complexity, and inventiveness of the original score, we sought to address the musical and technical challenges involved in creating a faithful transcription for viola and piano. The recording project and publication introduce this landmark ballet and orchestral work to viola soloists, advanced students, and broader audiences in a new format. We hope that this transcription will further encourage the study, performance, and appreciation of this remarkable work.
