WEST COAST CONFERENCE A tradition of academic and athletic excellence.

The West Coast Conference was fo rmed in 1952 to provide a convenient venue for f ive San Fra ncisco Bay Area schools to compete in basketball. Since that modest beg inning, the Conference has evo lved and ) grown to become a nationally recogn ized and competit ive force in intercolleg iate athletics, w ith 13 league-sponsored sports: baseba ll; bot h men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and tennis; and women's volleyba ll and crew.

The eight WCC members span t he western coast of the United St ates, from t he pine forests of Eastern Washington, to the Columbia Ri ver Basin, to the dynamic San Francisco Bay Area, t o the sunny beaches of Southern Cal ifornia . The Conference is cha racterized by the stability of its membership - on ly two conferences have been together longer - and its unique emphasis on combin ing excellence in ath letics with excellence in academics. The Conference recognizes championships in each of its sports, has hosted NCAA championship events, and produced 33 NCAA individual or team champions. And, many outstanding WCC student-athletes have gone on to excel in professional sports.

The long and rich history of the wee demonstrates that success in intercollegiate athletics can be bu ilt on the foundation of va lues, character, and academics.
