While the state’s revenues are dominated by four primary tribes, the Oklahoma industry is reaching a saturation point with a total of 30 tribes and 105 casinos. In order to compete and continue to grow market share, tribes are looking for ways to innovate. Each year, tribes are unveiling new or remodeled facilities as they vie for patron loyalty. Some of the most notable new facilities in recent years include the following: • The Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant Oklahoma opened in February 2010. • The Muscogee Creek Tribe opened River Spirit located near Tulsa, Oklahoma in March 2009. • The Quopaw Tribe opened the Downstrem Casino Resort located in the Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri tri-state area in July 2008. While tribes look to innovate within Oklahoma, other tribes have increased efforts to expand their gaming operations across borders. In 2010, the Wyandotte Nation continued its efforts to expand its gaming operations in Kansas as the tribe seeks the Department of Interior’s approval to place land near Wichita, Kansas into trust. Meanwhile, the Chickasaw Nation has pursued the expansion of commercial gaming through its Global Gaming Solutions business. In 2010, Global Gaming LLC competed for the South Central Kansas casino license and in 2009 they acquired Remington Park, a pari-mutuel horse racing facility located in Oklahoma City.
