LEADING THE WAY FOR FOOTBALL CLUBS IN EUROPE | No. 5 - 2017/18

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// NEWSLETTER ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

FOREWORD /////////////////////////////////////////// We can look back on the 2017/18 season as an important year in the history of ECA, with the appointment of a new Chairman and the celebration of our 10th anniversary. It has also been a year of important decisions made relating to the future of European club football and these past months have been no exception. However, firstly, I would like to congratulate our members from Madrid, Real Madrid CF and Club Atlético de Madrid, on winning the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League titles, respectively, as well as Olympique Lyonnais on winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League. And of course, congratulations to all ECA Member Clubs that have won domestic titles this season! Recently, a Board meeting was held in in Warsaw, at which, amongst other things, the Board Members called for open and transparent discussions to be undertaken with FIFA on issues relating to the future of competitions and the International Match Calendar. We have also just completed a round of PEC meetings. These meetings provided the perfect opportunity for club representatives to be updated and share feedback on important matters currently being discussed, such as the UEFA club competitions 2021-24 cycle, and post 2024, as well as discussions on updating the transfer system. We have also seen the introduction of the new FFP regulations, a result of an exemplary consultation process with our partners at UEFA. I trust you will enjoy reading about these developments. For now, have a great summer and see you next season!
