Location

Project Description The Centennial Recreation Center (CRC) opened in October 2006. At that time, it was anticipated that the facility would accommodate 2,250 membership units. By the end of June 2009, the facility had nearly 3,200 membership units equaling over 10,000 memberships. Then in the Spring of 2010 the CRC Fitness Center was expanded providing over 2,000 additional square feet of useable fitness space and a variety of additional fitness equipment. Since that time, membership has continued to grow, and the facility now has over 5,100 membership units and nearly 16,000 members. While creative programming has been used, the facility is at functional capacity. This project will expand the facility accommodating future programming needs and membership growth. A needs assessment has been conducted to determine the expansion plans and designs for the expansion are in progress. The assessment identified the current greatest need is more group exercise space. Included in this expansion is the expansion of the parking lot at the CRC. Additional parking is necessary to accommodate the growing users of the CRC and those visiting the adjacent amenities in Community Park. Additional phases of expansion at the CRC are identified in the Master Plan and those will occur at a later date. Project Justification Due to the overwhelming popularity of the CRC and the facility serving as the hub of recreation programs for the community, this project was identified during the needs assessment performed for the Recreation Center Impact Fee study during the fall of 2015. This project was also identified as a top priority in the recent Bikeways, Trails, Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
