Project Description The Morgan Hill Historical Society operates and maintains the 2.5-acre site known as Villa Mira Monte, including the Hiram Morgan Hill House, Museum and Centennial History Trail. In 2017, the City entered into a partnership with the Historical Society to preserve the site and support the operation of the site as a park facility. This partnership included funding needed repairs and small-scale improvements. The Bikeways, Trails, Parks and Recreation (BTPR) Master Plan further calls for the future development of Villa Mira Monte. The future improvements include additional outdoor event space and buildings to fully build out the site to support increased utilization as an event center, while at the same time improving the site as a historical resource. The improvements are broken into two phases. The first phase would create the parking and finalize landscaping at the site, while the second phase would add a building and covered pavilion area. The first phase is funded in FY2020/21. Moving forward with the design and construction would occur after evaluation of the currently proposed site plan. In FY2018/19 funding for a consultant to work with the City and the Historical Society to review and evaluate the current Villa Mira Monte facility master plan with consideration of best use of the site from a long-term sustainability perspective (cost recovery, revenue generation, and operations and maintenance). Project Justification Partnering to enhance the Villa Mira Monte site is consistent with the Council priority of Preserving Our Cultural Heritage and is prioritized in the BTPR Master Plan.
