October 1st: John Tanner True Accountability: What it Can and Should Look Like John Tanner is an educational thinker and writ- er specializing in the structures that drive the educational enterprise. In his book, The Pit- falls of Reform , John outlines how a number of those present structures—most notably tests, standards, and the quality determination for schools—all possess the similar characteristic of having been designed for purposes outside the goal of educational excellence. As a result, educational excellence occurs not because of the formal systems of accountability, but in spite of them, and when it does an educator is at heart of the change.

October 2nd: Panel of Experts Cybercrime Comes to Schools: Lessons Learned from a Victim District

What would it take to restore public trust if your school gets scammed for a lot of money? Imagine trying to pass a levy on the heels of a cyber theft of public funds…what can you do to protect your district’s resources? Cyber criminals have attacked schools in Ohio. Listen to and speak with a panel of those who have lived it. Learn from a moderated panel that includes two Ohio superintendents whose districts have been victims of cy- ber thievery tell their stories, an FBI supervisor who lays out common and uncommon strategies employed by cyber crimi- nals, along with what you can do to best protect your district resources, a banker who will advise you on best practices and bank strategies, an ITC Director will share data handling and techniques, and the statewide perspective of the Management Council.

Through her keynotes and execuƟve sessions, JJ shares effecƟve leadership, influence and inclusion   strategies to accelerate professional women.  JJ is a featured columnist for Smart Business Magazine and has been quoted in numerous publicaƟons including Forbes, The Wall Street        Journal, Fox Business, The Glass Hammer, Working Women Magazine, The Grindstone, IT World, Career‐Intelligence and Rescue a CEO. She  has shared her insights and discoveries with many corporaƟons and women’s organizaƟons.  She’s was recently included in the Top 100 Women Visionary Lead‐ ers to Watch in 2016 by Innov8Ɵv’s, received the InnovaƟon Award from the Small Business Network, recognized as one of the Top 25 People in Technology in  “Inside Business Cleveland” and was awarded the Next GeneraƟon Indie Book Awards for her book.  JJ includes these experiences along with hours of research in her book new book “ Accelerate Your Impact ” Aug. 2016.  This complements her 2011 book , “The  Working Woman’s GPS”. Safety & Security Kendra Yurgionas is a police officer at the Westlake Police  Department. She has been in law enforcement for over 10  years. With past experience as an invesƟgator for the Ohio  Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, and as a police  officer for both the Cleveland Clinic and the City of Hub‐ bard. Stephanie DeMichele began her career as a high school  English teacher and became a parent advocate for GiŌ‐ ed & Talented students.  She then became a Technology  Instructor and a Technology IntegraƟon Coordina‐

tor.  She is the 2016 recipient of the Idea stream BeƩy C. Cope Award for  outstanding service and commitment to supporƟng the educaƟon out‐ reach of its organizaƟon.  Stephanie now speaks (and is wriƟng a book)  to help make digital learning more accessible, less scary and easy‐peasy  for today’s educators.  

caƟons in cyber and financial crimes, which include Masters of Accountancy  (MAcc), CerƟfied Fraud Examiner (CFE), and CerƟfied Economic Crime Fo‐ rensic Examiner (CECFE). Kendra has authored and served over 200 legal  orders related to cyber‐crime invesƟgaƟons. In addiƟon, Kendra has devel‐ oped a variety of digital and internet safety programs for the Westlake City  Schools and community.   School Wellness Coordinator Mary P. Wise is the Project AWARE Coordinator through Project  AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in EducaƟon) at the  EducaƟonal Service Center of Northeast Ohio. She received her  Bachelors of Arts in Social Work from Cleveland State University,  her Masters of Social Work at Cleveland State University and her  Masters in School Counseling at the University of West Alabama.   She has 26 years of experience working in the social services and educaƟonal  field focusing on Children, Youth, and Families as well as EducaƟonal protocols  and processes, and grant wriƟng and management. Prior to working at the ESC,  she worked at Cleveland Heights‐University Heights School District as a school  counselor, and in Parma City School District as the Director the Parma Area Fami‐ ly CollaboraƟve. There she established and managed the operaƟons of the Col‐ laboraƟve (a social service organizaƟon) as part of the Parma City School District  in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Ser‐ vices. She takes a strength‐based approach in her work with youth, families and  schools, developing strong community partnerships to link appropriate resources  and services that meet their needs and focus on well‐being, safety, academic  success, and the stability of the children in their communiƟes. She is dual‐licensed in Social Work and School Counseling.  

System Navigator Denise M. Pietrzak is the System Navigator through  Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency  in EducaƟon) at the EducaƟonal Service Center of  Northeast Ohio. She received her Bachelors of Arts  in Forensic Psychology from Tiffin University and her  Masters of Science in Social AdministraƟon (MSSA, 

equivalent to an MSW) at Case Western Reserve University. She is  a Licensed Independent Social Worker w/Supervision DesignaƟon.   She has 20 years of experience working in the social service field  focusing on Children, Youth, and Families. Prior to working at the  ESC, she worked at Cuyahoga County’s Department of Health and  Human Services providing oversight to a cross‐system youth and  family centered process to ensure posiƟve outcomes for all youth.  She has provided case management, school based mental health,  and individual and family therapy in various clinical seƫngs. Her  work experience has been focused on serving mulƟ‐need, mulƟ‐ system youth and their families through a collaboraƟve approach  with system and community partners.
