Shoppers can also enjoy special events like free yoga classes, musical guests, visits from local celebrities, a Halloween costume contest, and special themes like Strawberry Week. The market is managed and run by SAFE (Somerville Alliance for Food Education), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering health and wellness through com munity connections. The group also hosts a variety of charitable events including two an nual free community dinners in Bridgewater. “We’re excited to support New Jersey farm ers and small businesses for a third year here in Somerville,” said Betty Krupka, SAFE president. “We invite everyone to explore the healthy produce and great products our vendors offer each week—and maybe meet some new friends and neighbors too!” SNAP participants are eligible for the mar ket’s “SNAP Triple Dollars” program, which provides $3 in SNAP dollars, Market Bucks, and Good Food Bucks to spend at participat ing vendors for every dollar charged to their EBT card. Volunteers 18 and up are needed to help with market setup and breakdown, staffing the SAFE information booth, assisting vendors, and providing support for special events. The Somerset County Regional Farmers Market will be open every Sunday, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m., May 3 through November 22, in the Somerville Middle School parking lot (corner of West High Street and Davenport
Street). Free parking is available on-street and in nearby municipal lots. Well-behaved, on-leash pets are welcome. An indoor Holiday Market will also be held in the school gymnasium on two Sun days in December. A hot food vendor is also on-site every week. “It’s a great walkable market for locals,” said Tony Kennette of Martenette Farms in Hillsborough, who is also the market man ager. “People can stroll up Main Street, grab some breakfast, and head to the market to hang out, get lunch at the food trucks, and engage with their neighbors.” Many vendors and customers alike say one of the market’s biggest strengths is the diverse selection of high-quality, locally made goods. “What makes it so great is the variety of vendors and the quality of products they of fer—you can find anything you need!” said Maria Marangio of Farmhouse Serenity Co. in Bridgewater, a returning market vendor.

Now beginning its third year, the market will bring that motto to life every Sunday from May through November at the Somer ville Middle School. Each weekend, the school’s parking lot will become a commu nity meeting place as local farmers, artisans, and other small businesses connect with shoppers from throughout the area.
