Today, this heritage building houses a museum that brings to life the history and daily life of English-speaking Madelinots through an immersive 20 th -century environment. The Veterans Museum highlights the historic role played by Madelinots in the military conflicts of the 20 th century. Names, events and acts of bravery are remembered, while honouring the human cost of war. Discover an impressive collection of artifacts, including uniforms, military gear, medals, letters and much more. [ad p. 92] The English-speaking community of the Islands traces its roots to English, Scottish and Irish fishermen, as well as survivors of the many shipwrecks along its shores. At St. Peter’s-by-the-Sea Church, now decons ecrated, a permanent exhibition pays tribute to the many island lives lost to the sea.
