To the Citizens of Harrison, The Harrison Historical Society is looking forward to another great year of interesting programs at the museum. It’s been great to see the regular attendees along with lots of new people joining us. The entire nation will be celebrating 250 years of Independence this year. We will be sharing the history of our nation by presenting a program about the Revolutionary War veterans that settled here in Harrison. Another program will showcase household items used during the colonial era. The programs will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from May to September at 7pm. Please follow us on Facebook or the Harrison weekly newsletter for further details. The museum will be open on Wednesday afternoons in July and August from 1-4pm. If you are unable to make it during those hours you may contact Martha Denison at 207-583-4858 to make an appointment. Harrison Historical Society consists of a 1810 farmhouse & barn, a large museum and multiple display sheds. As stewards of the property it is our goal to maintain the buildings that house the many historical artifacts donated over the last 60 years. Last year, with the help of several volunteers, we were able to complete some much needed work that will help protect the farming implements in the equipment shed. The west side of the building that was lacking siding was covered in boards. We placed a layer of plastic followed by a layer of stone on the ground as a water barrier. The equipment will have proper signage and be set in a way that will make it easier for visitors to access and learn about the farming implements. Thank you to everyone that helped with this valuable project. HHS had plans to replace shingles on the long shed but late in the season it was discovered that the roof needs sheathing prior to new shingles. This project will be completed in the Spring. Many thanks to the officers of HHS for all you do to keep history alive! Hobie Denison, President Carolee Collier, VP of Programs
