on vinyl at JBWollongong. Connor likes to put on a bit of Creedence Clearwater Revival from time to time for that nostalgic buzz (“I got a lot of blues and ‘80s pop from my mum and dad”), but his favourite LPs also include Alicia Keys’ Songs In A Minor , Horrorshow’s King Amongst Many , and some old Marilyn Manson: Mechanical Animals and Antichrist Superstar . He's digging Manson’s new album, Heaven Upside Down , too: “It’s very much still in that same gothic- bluesy vibe as [last album] The Pale Emperor ,” he says. Other new releases on his radar are A.B. Original’s Reclaim Australia (“They’re getting nominations left right and centre”) and pianist Tori Amos’ fresh record Native Invader – “I rate her very highly; her song A Sorta Fairytale , that’s one of my all-time favourite songs.” He’s hoping Manson recovers well after the musician’s scary on-stage fall a month or two ago: “I’ve never seen him live – I’ve wanted to for years and years,” he says, “and there’s rumours of a show next year. Hopefully I get to see him in form.” Manson in the 'Gong – you heard it here first.

H ave you ever wondered why touring bands will play capital city, capital city, capital city… then Wollongong? What’s so special about the scenic beachside township?

Connor Browne reckons it’s a mash of geography and denizen demographic. “It’s down on the south coast, man, that bit between Sydney and Canberra,” he explains, “and it’s a pretty

Uni-driven place; everyone moves here for Uni.” Clement weather and music-hungry kids: makes sense. “It’s great to see people come in – especially young kids – that’ll ask for bands that have been touring,” he says. “[The band] might not even have a CD out yet, but you’ll look it up for them, it’s great to see.” Aside from a classics like Jeff Buckley’s Grace (one of Connor’s favourites) and Bowie are popular solid punk and emo fanbase,
