2.2 Current state
2.2.1 YEARLY DEMAND EVOLUTION
The level of gas demand in Europe has been influenced by the development of the gas market and the specific climatic conditions over the years. Energy and environ- mental policies have had a positive effect by improving energy efficiency. However, more negatively there have been events like the economic crisis, plus the evolution of commodity prices leading to coal displacing gas in the power generation mix. These factors, along with mild climatic conditions during 2014 and 2015 have reduced gas demand in recent years.
