(No. 31 of 1995) This Act, signed by the President on 15 December 1995, provides for increases in the number of judges of the Supreme, High, Circuit and District Courts to deal with arrears of appeals in those courts and the ongoing business of those courts. It further provides that the Supreme Court may sit in divisions and for the abolition of the Court of Criminal Appeal and the transfer of its jurisdiction to the Supreme Court. It also makes provision for the establishment of a Judicial Appointments Advisory Board to advise the government on the suitability of candidates for judicial appointment; the extension of the powers of the Master of the High Court, County Registrars and Taxing Masters of the High Court and certain other matters. (Cf. also (1996) 14 ILT 18.) These Rules provide that a summons may be served by delivery by hand, by any member of the Garda Síochána, other than the person on whose behalf the summons purports to be issued, in accordance with the provisions of s. 22(1 )(c) of the Courts Act 1991. Professional Indemnity Insurance Regulations 1995 (SI No. 312 of 1995) The principal purpose of these Regulations is to implement the provisions of s. 26 of the Solicitors (Amendment) Act 1994 and: (i) to provide for the establishment and membership of the Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee; (ii) to provide that, with certain exceptions, solicitors applying to the Law Society of Ireland for a practising certificate must have a minimum level of professional indemnity insurance cover incorporating approved indemnity terms in respect of the civil liability owed by solicitors to their clients in the provision by them of legal services; (iii) to provide for the requirements of an insurer becoming District Court (Service of Summonses) Rules 1995 (SI No. 305 of 1995)

This Bill, as presented by the Minister for Health, aims to make provision for certain health services to be made available, without charge, to certain persons who have contracted hepatitis C. European Communities (Wild Game) Regulations 1995 (SI No. 298 of 1995) The purpose of these Regulations is to implement Council Directive No. 92/45/EEC (of 16 June 1992) which lays down standards for the hygenic production of wild game meat in approved and officially supervised establishments so as to safeguard public and animal health. The Regulations came into operation on 20 November 1995. Employment, aims to replace the Trade Marks Act 1963 with the intention of: giving effect to the provisions of Council Directive 89/104/EEC (of 11 February 1989) on the approximation of trade mark laws; making provision in connection with Council Regulation (EC) No. 40/94 (of 14 February 1994); giving effect to the Protocol to the Madrid Agreement (of 27 June 1989) concerning the international registration of trade marks; giving effect to certain provisions of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Prpoerty (of 20 March 1883); to permit the registration of trademarks in relation to services (that is, service marks), and to effect a general updating of the law on trade marks. LICENSING

Intoxicating Liquor Act 1995 (No. 33 of 1995) This Act, which was signed by Early Signature Motion, allows shops and supermarkets which are licensed to sell intoxicating liquor by retail and other licensed premises to remain open on Christmas Eve or 23 December in any year that either day falls on a Sunday, as if it was a weekday.
