Automated coil-spreader for LHM ACTOM division LH Marthinusen (LHM) – a leading repairer of transform- ers and large rotating machines, and manufacturer of specialised trans- formers – recently installed a new hydraulic stator coil winding spreader. The automated coil-spreader is significantly more efficient and faster than the older machines. The machine, which has replaced three pneumat- ic coil-spreaders, spreads coils of between 800 and 3500 mm in length. Not only does it operate about 40% faster than the machines it has replaced but, more importantly, it spreads the coils consistently accord- ing to specification, which further contributes to its high productivity compared with the older pneumatic units. The unit is of heavy duty de- sign with full power stroke available throughout the spreading range. Its compact footprint and quieter operation is indicative of the new generation of automated machinery that has become available. With the automated control there is less setup required and previous setups are recalled at a touch of a screen menu. The unit has a simple Human Man Machine interface with coil spread geometry controlled by electronic sensors. ACTOM (Pty) Ltd is the largest manufacturer, solution provider, re- pairer and distributor of electro-mechanical equipment in Africa, offering a winning and balanced combination of manufacturing, service, repairs, maintenance, projects and distribution through its 40 outlets throughout Southern Africa. ACTOM is also a major local supplier of electrical equipment, servic- es and balance of plant to the renewable energy projects. It holds numerous technology, distribution and value added reseller agreements with various partners, both locally and internationally. Enquiries:Tel. +27 (0) 11 615 6722 or visit www.lhm.co.za
